Huddersfield Town failed to score for the first time in 32 matches as Bradford City blunted their rival's assault on top spot in League One.

Bantams defender Mark Bower went the closest to breaking the deadlock when he hit the post early in the second half as Town were involved in their first goalless draw in 46 matches.

It was a typically hard-fought Yorkshire derby but there were few clear-cut chances with local pride at stake for both clubs.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher had an early shot saved by Donavan Ricketts before Jonathan Worthington's shot was deflected for a corner.

Owen Morrison used his pace for the visitors and looked to be going all the way until a brilliant sliding tackle by Danny Adams.

Danny Cadamarteri then burst through on goal to force Paul Rachubka to save with his legs while at the other end Danny Schofield repeatedly made mischief down the left for the home side.

A neat cross set up David Mirfin to head into the side-netting and similar service saw Taylor-Fletcher head over the bar.

Schofield always looked Huddersfield's best bet but too often the game got bogged down in midfield.

Three minutes after the break Bradford almost scored when Nathan Clarke fouled Dean Windass 40 yards out. Steven Schumacher floated in a free-kick and defender Bower met the ball with a glancing header which came back off the outside of the left-hand post.

Pawel Abbott, Huddersfield's 11-goal top scorer, but without a goal in a month, sliced a shot wide and that was his last contribution before he went off with a knee wound.

Andy Booth, seeking to celebrate the 12-month contract extension he signed on Friday, saw a dipping shot land on the roof of the net and he also went close with a trademark header.

The Terriers had the better chances to seal the points late on but Bradford, who lost full-back Andrew Taylor with flu three hours before the game and Richard Edghill with a hamstring strain in the warm-up - were not about to be denied.
