Bradford, 2nd April 2008: David Wetherall, from Bradford City FC, was
today announced as the winner of the PFA 2UP Fans Player of the Month
Award in League Two.
Wetherall was recognised by football fans across the country who voted
on givemefootball.com and via text, as the best player in League Two.
The veteran defender has provided proof, if needed, that you are never
too old to pick up awards - and he will be delighted with this honour.
The Bantam''s club record signing (£1.4million) when he joined the club
from Leeds in 1999, the 37-year-old is still going strong in the
twilight of his career, and Wetherall''s wealth of experience is proving
invaluable in the Bradford defence as they look to stabilise their
position in League Two.
The Fans Awards have been running for 7 years, receiving over 30,000
votes a month. 2UP, the new sponsors of the Award, have now added text
voting so people can vote from the football ground, as well as online
after a game.
One lucky winner who voted for Wetherall will be chosen to come to a
Bradford City game and present the trophy to the player. The winner is
chosen at random and will be announced later in the month.
