Boss praises Atherton

Atherton had not even trained with the first team since tearing his groin against Ipswich three weeks ago but after two days of solo practice with physio Steve Redmond he was thrown into the game in central midfield.

The Bradford boss said: "You wouldn't think Peter had been away. But he does that all the time, and that's why I've no doubts about playing Peter anywhere and at any stage.

"He's such a good, clever pro and he knows how to get his way through games.

"He's a big organiser of people, and the younger ones need that influence."
