Atherton, who has been sidelined for two months after tearing his groin in Bradfords league game with Leicester City, played in an arranged practice game earlier this week.

Talking to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus manager Nicky Law said: "He played an hour and ten minutes and didn't seem to have any problems. If he is all right today, then I would hope he's got a chance.

"Peter's got to be happy and comfortable with it. But his presence will make a big difference and he can go in there and dictate things."

Meanwhile, striker Ashley Ward has a chance of being fit for the home game against Gillingham on December 7th after a scan on Wednesday revealed only slight damage to his calf.
