MK Dons v BCFC

I don't know about you but for me, the most exciting event in the football calendar is the FA cup draw, particularly when we get to the hulabaloo of the third round. Sadly for City by the time the third draw is televised we are muttering to ourselves 'at least we can concentrate on the league again'.

So again this time round after our unfortunate first round draw these same words are being uttered. At the same time that little voice in the back of your head nags about how exciting it would be to be sat down in front of the telly while our ball is rattling around under the fateful hand of some London based football personality on the BBC.

For me an inclusion in the third round of the FA cup would almost make up for the disappointment of not making automatic promotion this season, if that of course comes to pass. I say almost, of course.

A progression in the cup is as useful to a sides morale as it is damaging to weary legs, if not more so. Our survival campaign back in the 97/98 season was given a real kick start by our courage and confidence that was gained in that famous cup run. memories of Chris Waddle's wonder goal will live long in the memory and its such fixtures that add a little bonus to being a fan of a so called 'smaller club.'

The opportunity to travel to one of the big boys seems a long way off and indeed it would seem like a mountain to climb after our unfortunate first round draw but the lure of what rewards might await us, leaves me baffled by those who believe that an early exit is a good thing. Personally, a victory against MK Dons would make me ecstatic and giddy with the hidden surprises that awit us during the winter months.

I'm not getting my hopes up but a cup run would be a real tonic for everyone at the club after a somewhat nervy start to our league campaign. I think a cup run would galvanise the team and support rather than detract from a promotion push. A win at MK Dons and who knows....

...well, probably a second round exit in a stale away fixture at Chesterfield knowing our luck!
